Kauai June / July 2008 with Grandma Smith

We decided to take Grandma to Kauai again for her 80th birthday. We ended up doing a lot more on this trip than expected including a sunset boat cruise (Grandma's idea!)

Hale Nai'a, our favorite house on the south shore:

Kamalani Playground at Lydgate Park. We always visit this park a few times during our trip.

Our day trip into Kokee and the Alakai Swamp Trail:

Wild Blackberries! Yum!

Plantation Gardens Restaurant in Poipu
(excellent place, our favorite restaurant on the island!):

Relaxing at the house on Baby's Beach, Poipu:

Glass Beach near Port Allen:

Kipu Falls:
(We did not stay. Mom and Grandma stayed at the car while the boys took a quick look. It was way too crowded and there was evidence of recent car break ins, etc.)

Torchlighting Ceremony at the Grand Hyatt:

Dondero's at the Grand Hyatt: (another favorite and as always, excellent!)

Day Trip to the North Shore with lunch at the Mediterrian Gourmet in Haena:

Tide Pools at the Grand Hyatt for Grandma's 80th birthday:
(again, another wonderful dinner with perfect service and food)

Captain Andy's Sunset Dinner Cruise out of Port Allen:

The Hanalei Bay Resort (North Shore) with lunch at The Happy Talk Lounge:

Sunset Barbecue at Polihale State Beach:

Wailua Municipal Golf Course:

Hukilau Lanai Restaurant in Kapaa:

This was the very first time we tried this restaurant. Wonderful service and food. And very reasonably prices. We will add this to our "must do" list.

4th of July at Shipwreck's Beach:

Other restaurants:

Cafe Portofino in Lihue - excellent service, food and atmosphere
Keoki's in Poipu in the bar - excellent and fast service
Duke's for lunch - excellent food and fast service, sat in the middle table near the water fall
Keoki's for lunch in the dining room, extremely slow but excellent fish tacos*
Casablana in Poipu - good service and just OK food
Olympic Cafe in Kapaa - very SLOW service and food was not great, huge servings!

**The fish tacos at Keoki's used to be $8.95 for two. Then they changed the dish to be about $5.95 for one. NOW, it's $9.95 for one and it's breaded and fried. We had to pay $2.00 extra to have the fish grilled. Extra to NOT have it fried???? Go figure!

Next trip: June 2009
